ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT
Check out some of our alpine athletes who have stepped up their game this season!
U10/U12
Emma
Reynolds has been having an amazing season in not only
the U10/U12 race series, but has also the U14 age bracket. Emma dominated the
annual Hovey Memorial Giant Slalom held at Whiteface Mountain on January 9th,
placing not only 1st for the U10/U12 age group, but also taking home the
overall title as Hovey Champion. Following the Hovey Memorial Race, Emma went
on to compete in the U14 Mountain Council Giant Slalom at Whiteface Mountain
where she placed 2nd out of 42 U14 girls in run 1. Most recently at the Kandahar
Festival at Windham Mountain, Emma took home the top honors for the U14/U12/U10
girls and has gone on to compete at the Kandahar championships in Hunt Hollow,
New York.
U14
Magnus Sheffield and Jaden Klebba have been working hard on
as their Slalom technique as U14s this season, and it has paid off! At the
NYSSRA Mountain Council Slalom at West Mountain on February 14th, Magnus skied
to a men's victory and Jaden took home the gold for the ladies. The NYSEF - Whiteface U14's
had 17 athletes at states this season at Bristol
Mountain from March 5-7th.
U16
Katie Heintz is is a weekend athlete who is
new to ski racing, but that has certainly not gotten in the way of her making
some great progress this season! She is consistently one of the hardest working
athletes and always with a smile. We look forward to seeing Katie reach her
goals and continuing to make us laugh!
U19
Ethan Hejna has made amazing progress over
the last 18 months with some help from his incredibly "can-do"
attitude that motivates him to keep improving. Ethan is also pretty lucky
to have great teammates who push and support him. Ethan went to
U19 Nationals at Copper, CO to represent the USSA Eastern Region, Northwood
Skiing, and NYSEF.
**Thank you to our
hard-working NYSEF coaches for making the very tough decision of which athletes
to highlight this month! Keep up the hard work, everyone, and be sure to check
out who we feature in the Athlete Spotlight next month!!
